Che Ecru

Vocalist and producer Che Ecru crafts angular, exploratory R&B distinguished by unconventional production decisions and atmospheric moods. He first posted self-produced tracks online in 2015 and quickly attracted attention. Steady releases kept expanding his audience, drawing interest from figures such as Drake, who sampled one of Ecru’s songs for a 2019 hit, while he continued issuing material at a rapid pace, including the 2022 project Pain Pack 5.

Born in Boston, Che Ecru developed an early passion for music. After spending just one week at college in 2015 he left to devote himself entirely to music, concentrating on instrumentals that showcased his distinctive handling of samples, spare textures, and irregular rhythmic and time-signature choices. Initial cuts such as “2 AM” and “Good” paved the way for the 2017 full-length Buries. The 2018 single “Before I Die” gained traction independently, yet its profile grew further the next year when it was interpolated on the Drake and Chris Brown collaboration “No Guidance.” Now based in Los Angeles, he maintained a consistent output of new work. In addition to standalone singles he issued self-produced projects including the 2019 EP Ghosts Need Love 2, the 2020 albums Still Single and Til Death, and the 2022 releases What Are We? EP and Pain Pack 5.
