Biography
An Emmy-nominated performer, Chrissy Metz entered the major-label music arena by portraying Kate on NBC’s acclaimed series This Is Us. The on-screen rendition of Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide” earned a 2018 MTV Movie & TV Award nomination for Best Musical Moment. Her first standalone single, “Talking to God,” arrived in 2020 and presented a candid style of contemporary country that took shape during sessions in Nashville.
Christine Michelle Metz entered the world in Homestead, Florida, and lived briefly in Japan before her family settled in Gainesville during her elementary years. Acting opportunities surfaced in the mid-2000s, when she was in her mid-twenties, including guest appearances on Entourage and My Name Is Earl. Her feature-film introduction came in 2007 with a supporting part in Loveless in Los Angeles alongside Dash Mihok. Regular work followed on American Horror Story: Freak Show from 2014 to 2015, after which she secured the role of Kate Pearson; the series premiered in September 2016. The next year she performed “Landslide” within an episode, and the track appeared on the 2017 Universal compilation Music from the Series This Is Us. Around the same time she received Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
In 2018 Metz joined singer Matt Boyd for a version of Scott Alan’s “Anything Worth Holding On To” and supplied the voice of Mei Mei for selected installments of the animated program Kung Fu Panda: The Paws of Destiny, which ran through 2019. Singing resumed in 2019 with “I’m Standing with You,” featured in the film Breakthrough, where she also appeared on screen. The song was placed on Breakthrough [Music from & Inspired by the Motion Picture], an album that included contributions from Kirk Franklin and Lecrae. That same year the This Is Us ensemble claimed its second straight Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.
After signing with EMI Nashville, Metz issued “Talking to God” in April 2020 as her initial country single. The follow-up, “Actress,” emerged that June.
