Texas-born performer Christian Kane, who works as an actor, musician, singer, and songwriter, first gained widespread attention through his film and television appearances, yet he also fronts the Southern country-rock outfit Kane while maintaining a parallel recording career. Born in Dallas, Texas, to a family of Native American heritage, Kane grew up with a father employed in the oil industry whose job kept the household relocating across the South and Southwest until they finally put down roots in Norman, Oklahoma, during the future performer’s eighth-grade year. Although he participated in football and wrestling at the high school level, Kane pursued a major in art history at the University of Oklahoma, where an interest in acting first took hold. He departed campus before completing his degree and headed to Los Angeles, initially supporting himself by delivering scripts for a talent management firm that also arranged auditions on his behalf. One of those opportunities yielded a lead role in the series Fame L.A., after which Kane accumulated credits across multiple programs such as Angel, Close to Home, and Leverage, plus made-for-television films including Crossfire Train and the miniseries Into the West, and feature films such as Just Married, Secondhand Lions, Friday Night Lights, and The Donner Party. Parallel to those screen commitments, Kane nurtured his musical side; after crossing paths in 1997 with Steve Carlson—who had assumed Kane’s former position at the management company—the two began collaborating on songs, and the following year they launched the Southern rock band Kane, relocating its operations from Los Angeles to Nashville in 2001. The group issued its own independent albums, Kane in 2000 and Live in London in 2004. Later, after signing with Bigger Picture Group, Kane issued the EP Christian Kane on the label under his own name in 2010, followed that December by the full-length album The House Rules.
