Born in Queens, New York, Carlos Cid, who performs as CID, first built a career as a DJ before establishing himself as a sought-after producer. An early affinity for house and dance music led him, at age 11, to ride the bus regularly to record shops, where he would audition new dance releases and converse with the DJs purchasing fresh stock. By 12 he had begun DJ'ing himself, and his growing skill earned him steady bookings at prominent New York events as he entered adulthood. Those appearances soon expanded to national and European stages while he simultaneously started producing and remixing. In 2012 he received a Grammy Award for his contributions to Cedric Gervais’ remix of Lana Del Rey’s “Summertime Sadness,” an achievement that elevated his visibility. Thereafter he worked in both the studio and live settings with Kaskade, Sharam, and Tiësto. He next issued original material under his own name, scoring notable releases in 2016—including “Us” and “Sweet Memories,” both with Kaskade, as well as “Together” and “Secrets” featuring Conrad Sewell—that marked his breakthrough year.
