Disciples

South London’s Disciples have specialized in brisk, melody-driven commercial house since launching in 2013. The production trio—Nathan Duvall, Gavin Koolmon, and Luke McDermott—first broke through with the Calvin Harris collaboration “How Deep Is Your Love,” a platinum-certified single that peaked at number two on the U.K. pop chart in 2015; later that year they returned to the Top 20 with the equally platinum “On My Mind.” Prior to forming Disciples, Duvall and Koolmon had issued material under the names Stylistix (“How Soon”) and Kool & Duvall (“U Lift Me Up”). The group’s recorded debut arrived in 2013 on New State Music with the Remedy EP, whose title track earned spins from BBC DJs Target and Trevor Nelson. Profile rose further after they joined Pete Tong’s Parlophone-backed FFRR imprint, releasing 2014–2015 singles including “Catwalk” and “They Don’t Know,” the latter of which reached number 24 on the U.K. pop chart. Momentum from those releases led to two prominent 2015 team-ups: “Yellow” alongside Robin Schulz and “How Deep Is Your Love,” co-written and co-produced with Ina Wroldsen and Calvin Harris. The latter cut narrowly missed the top of the U.K. singles chart, entered the U.S. Hot 100’s Top 30, and registered strongly across multiple territories. By year’s end Disciples were promoting The Following EP. Among their 2016 output was the David Guetta collaboration “No Worries,” yet 2017 brought greater success on their own with the swirling single “On My Mind,” which climbed to number 15 in the U.K. and earned platinum status. In 2018 the trio added the euphoric cuts “48HRS” and “Atheist” to their singles catalog. Beginning that year and extending through 2019, Mania Dub issued a run of 7-inch and 10-inch vinyl releases from Disciples, among them “Siberian Tiger/Ease Up” and “African Odyssey/African Dub.”
