Biography
Cinthie from Berlin balances an intense workload across dance music, acting as a track producer, touring DJ, proprietor of a record shop and multiple imprints, and parent. Her earliest output took the form of several breakbeat electro tracks issued in the opening years of the 2000s. She stayed busy behind the decks while assembling a sizable personal studio stocked with vintage synthesizers and drum machines. Co-founding the Beste Modus label and collective led to multiple sublabels and the growth of the Elevate Berlin record store and label group, through which she issued many singles rooted in house but shaped by disco and rave touches. The 2020 release of her debut album Skylines - City Lights preceded her 2022 installment in the long-running DJ-Kicks mix series.
Cinthie Christl took up DJing at 16 after beginning weekend shifts at Humpty Records in Saarbrücken, Germany. She played whatever incoming stock caught her ear, performed at area clubs, and drew an invitation to tour from WestBam after he witnessed one of her sets. Production skills followed, resulting in breakbeat singles on the Electric Kingdom label between 2002 and 2004, the first two issued as Cinthie aka Vinyl Princess. Shifting tastes prompted her exit from that imprint and immersion in Berlin’s D.I.Y. party scene, where she hosted illegal raves and squat parties. The arrival of her daughter in 2009 nearly prompted full retirement from music, yet friendships with other music devotees spurred the launch of Beste Modus in 2012. After losing her mother and ending her marriage, she resigned from her full-time role at software company Ableton to devote herself entirely to DJing and production centered on classic analog synthesizers. Releases continued via Beste Modus and its sublabels including We_r House, with the additional launch of 803 Crystal Grooves in 2018. That year brought “Trust,” her opening single for Will Saul’s Aus Music, succeeded by “Mesmerizing” in 2019.
Beste Modus wrapped up in 2019, yet Cinthie kept operating the Elevate Berlin store while sustaining her DJ and release activity. Her first album Skylines - City Lights surfaced on Aus Music in 2020 and mixed deep house, garage, and electro cuts. Shall Not Fade issued the Free Fall EP in 2021, and she supplied remixes for Frankie Knuckles, Tensnake, Dusky, Scuba, and further artists. Her earliest mix made available commercially arrived in 2022 as an entry in !K7’s DJ-Kicks series.
