Biography
After establishing themselves as backing musicians within Los Angeles’s independent music community, Micah Gordon and Eli Hirsch formed courtship. and began shaping bright, hook-driven electronic indie pop. Their first full-length effort, Denial in Paradise, appeared in 2018; the follow-up, I Hope You’re Well in These Crazy Times, arrived four years later.
In 2016 the pair chose to leave the rock band Bloodboy behind and launch a joint venture centered on their own material. Having previously contributed to other L.A. acts—Gordon as a member of Tobias Jesso, Jr.’s group and Hirsch alongside Ethan Burns, Dreamers, and additional projects—they redirected their energies toward songwriting and studio craft under the courtship. banner. That focus yielded the concise debut single “Stop for Nothing” the same year. Subsequent reinterpretations of their work by Body Language and EMBRZ underscored the electronic foundation already present in the tracks. A consistent output of singles continued, including the 2017 viral successes “Tell Me Tell Me Tell Me” and “Sunroof,” both later featured on Denial in Paradise. The next year brought “Number 1,” “Amy Run for the Hills,” and the self-mocking “Guy Stuff.” During 2021 the duo released further tracks such as “Fuzzy” and “I Try” ahead of their second album, I Hope You’re Well in These Crazy Times, issued in August 2022.
