Blending Southern rock with modern country, Crossin' Dixon gained notice in Nashville during the mid-2000s thanks to their energetic stage presence. The quartet, all natives of Mississippi, consists of singer Jason Miller, drummer Michael Bole, and guitarists/vocalists Brandon Hyde and Charlie Grantham. They began performing together in 2002 under the name Kyote Wylde, yet their demanding schedule of roughly 100 concerts annually prompted a rebranding to better capture their cross-state journeys. A mutual acquaintance connected the group with producer Michael Knox in 2006; Knox had previously guided Jason Aldean’s self-titled debut to platinum certification the year before. Impressed by the band’s vocal harmonies, which he compared to those of Alabama, Knox helped secure a recording contract with Broken Bow Records that September. Under his production, Crossin' Dixon tracked their lively first single, “Guitar Slinger,” which appeared in summer 2007 and sent the musicians back out on tour to promote it.
