Biography
A praise and worship artist of remarkable versatility, Crystal Aikin blends elements from classic gospel, jazz, rock, hip-hop, and R&B throughout her work. The year 2009 saw the release of her self-titled first album, which earned both a Dove Award nomination and a Stellar Award. Her 2015 project All I Need marked a strong comeback on the gospel charts. Audiences remained engaged by her modern gospel approach during the 2020s, highlighted through energetic, faith-focused tracks such as "Trouble Don't Last" and "He Can Handle It."
Raised in Tacoma, Washington, Aikin joined church choirs and vocal ensembles from an early age. She gradually assumed greater responsibilities in leading vocals and directing, all while maintaining extended shifts as an emergency room nurse at a Tacoma Catholic hospital. Her trajectory shifted dramatically upon joining the inaugural season of BET's prominent gospel talent show Sunday Best as a contestant in 2007. Emerging as the season's champion and a viewer favorite, she secured a recording and production deal from the visibility. Zomba Gospel issued her debut, Crystal Aikin, in 2009, crafted under the guidance of PAJAM, Dre & Vidal, and Asaph A. Ward. The release climbed to the third position on Billboard's Gospel Albums chart, enabling her to leave nursing behind and pursue music full-time. All I Need brought her back into the Gospel Albums Top Ten in 2015, an album that mirrored her own spiritual journey, and she persisted in developing her profound CCM style via dynamic singles including "Trouble Don't Last" from 2022 and "He Can Handle It" the following year.
