Electronic artist Dave Matthias has built a career as a sought-after remixer, DJ, and radio host specializing in progressive house and trance. Active since the 1990s, he achieved repeated chart prominence by assembling remix collections such as In My House, There's a Disco in 2000, Maximum Workout in 2004, and Best of Pure Dance Party in 2007. More than ten of his productions reached the top of the Billboard Dance Chart, among them reworkings for Jennifer Lopez, Dua Lipa, and Janet Jackson. Matthias has also issued his own series of house and club compilations, among them This Is My House in 2019. Recent singles include the 2019 track “Madness in the Dark” and 2023’s “Worst Behavior,” both featuring Grammy-winning songwriter Makeba, keeping him active in contemporary dance circles.

Raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Matthias trained in broadcast communications and began in television before shifting to music in the early 1990s as a club DJ throughout the region. He additionally served as a Billboard Magazine Dance Chart reporter. That visibility led to his own radio programs, The Matthias Mix on KBBF 89.1 FM and St. John’s Playhouse on KYLD/WILD 107 FM, where he showcased his remixes and edits of material by Jungle Brothers, Cassius, Armin Van Buuren, and others. He drew further notice for official radio edits of Armand Van Helden’s “The Funk Phenomena.” In 2000 he issued the initial volume of the mixtape series In My House, There’s a Disco and introduced the nationally syndicated program The Digital Groove.

Collaborations with major artists have yielded numerous Top Five and Top Ten Dance Chart entries, including number-one remixes of Jennifer Lopez’s “Baila Conmigo,” Janet Jackson’s “Made for Now,” Christina Aguilera’s “Accelerate,” Dua Lipa’s “Be the One,” Rihanna’s “Pose,” and Toni Braxton’s “Coping.” He has also compiled albums such as Future Sounds of Trance 1 in 2002, Pure Dance Party in 2003, and Maximum Workout in 2004. Two collections of original house and club material, This Is My House and This Life, appeared in 2019. Alongside remixes for Oriko and St. Levi, France Joli, and others, Matthias has issued his own singles, beginning with the 2019 Makeba collaboration “Madness and the Dark,” which reached number ten on the U.K. Music Week Upfront Club Chart and number 13 on Billboard’s Dance Chart. Further joint tracks followed, including “So in Love” in 2020 and “Worst Behavior” in 2023. That same year he released additional originals such as “The Way It Feels” and “Don’t Make Me Wait,” then scored a Top Five U.K. Music Week hit with his versions of legendary R&B singer Betty Harris’ “Show It.”
