Biography
Following his 2000 heroin overdose at the close of Full Devil Jacket’s first tour, lead singer Josh Brown understood he must overhaul his lifestyle to escape death. He therefore abandoned plans to finish the band’s next album and instead dedicated several years to getting clean while discovering religion. Although he believed his music career was finished, Brown kept writing songs. Essential Records, a Christian label, contacted him around the same period to propose a partnership. With little material ready, the conversations produced no immediate outcome, yet they prompted him to begin composing alongside Jackson, TN, resident Greg Hionis. Their work yielded sufficient tracks for Day of Fire’s self-titled debut, released by Essential in 2004. By 2006 guitarist Joe Pangallo, bassist Chris Pangallo, and drummer Zach Simms had joined the lineup, allowing the group to issue its second album, Cut and Move.
