Debbii Dawson channels an introspective sensibility through her compositions, merging pop, folk, alt-country, and enduring melodic instincts with a gentle, lilting vocal approach and supple vibrato. An appearance on America’s Got Talent in 2022 preceded the arrival of her first EP, Learning, in 2023, which introduced listeners to her bittersweet, cross-genre aesthetic. A year afterward she issued her major-label debut, the retro-disco-inflected single “Happy World.”

Minnesota-born Deborah Dawson, daughter of touring musicians, journeyed abroad throughout childhood. Keyboard instruction came from her father, who had absorbed the same fundamentals from his own father; although the grandfather lacked an instrument in his Indian household, he practiced by sketching keys on pavement and passed the method to Debbii’s father. The elder Dawson later relocated to the United States for college music studies, where he met his future spouse. As youngsters, Debbii and her sister Sitarah performed together, delivering the national anthem and competing in talent shows. Over time she expanded her instrumental skills to include guitar and percussion. In mid-2022 she entered Season 17 of America’s Got Talent, accompanying herself on guitar for a spare, slowed-down reading of ABBA’s “Dancing Queen.” The audition advanced her through preliminary rounds before elimination occurred just short of the semifinals, while the accompanying video clip accumulated more than ten million online views.

Preparation for her debut EP began promptly. Issued in July 2023, Learning drew on songwriting sessions conducted in Los Angeles with Alida Peck (Katy Perry, Kylie Minogue), Kevin Hickey, aka Zhone (Dillon Francis, Troye Sivan), and Casey Smith (Olivia Rodrigo, Maroon 5), highlighting the same genre-blending introspection. The Emily Dickinson-inspired single “Eulogy for Nobody” attracted sufficient attention to secure a contract with RCA Records in early 2024. Her first major-label offering, the disco-tinted “Happy World,” followed that April.
