The Minnesota-based sibling act Durry crafts scruffy alt-pop that draws from suburban dissatisfaction while aspiring toward greater purpose. Formed in 2020 by Austin and his sister Taryn Durry, the pair achieved viral recognition after a demo version of their energetic slacker anthem "Who's Laughing Now" exploded as a TikTok sensation in 2021. Operating under the straightforward moniker Durry, they leveraged this momentum for their energetic debut full-length Suburban Legend, which arrived in 2023.

During the initial phase of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Austin Durry relocated with his spouse to his parents' residence in Burnsville, Minnesota, located in the Minneapolis suburbs. Previously a member of the alt rock outfit Coyote Kid, he ended up sharing the household with his parents and younger sibling Taryn amid the lockdown restrictions. Upon commencing work on fresh compositions, Taryn served as both foil and partner, aiding in the development of introspective tracks that connected with listeners from her Gen Z cohort and his Millennial one. Adopting their surname for the endeavor, the siblings initiated a Kickstarter effort to finance an EP for the nascent project. A demo track from 2021, the catchy and ironic tribute to underachievement titled "Who's Laughing Now," unexpectedly gained massive popularity on TikTok. Hastily issuing the polished rendition allowed the track's momentum to build steadily throughout the following twelve months. Durry finished a complete album by 2023, incorporating their breakthrough single plus eleven additional comparable songs. Drawing sonic inspiration from predecessors including Weezer, the White Stripes, and Sum 41, they put out Suburban Legend in September of that year.
