DWNTWN

Drawing from both the Carter Family and Crystal Castles, the eclectic pop outfit DWNTWN includes vocalist Jamie Leffler, guitarist/vocalist Robert Cepeda, and drummer Daniel Vanchieri. Cepeda and Leffler—the daughter of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers bassist Howie Epstein—launched the project in 2010 by co-writing songs to move past their individual breakups. The band soon completed its roster and issued the debut single "See My Eyes" on Kitsuné in 2012. That same year they also delivered the EPs Cowboys and the synth-heavy Red Room, the latter evoking Ellie Goulding and the Drive soundtrack. DWNTWN joined Jhameel and Giraffage in 2013 for the track "Move Me," which landed on the compilation Kitsuné America, Vol. 2. Their self-titled EP followed on Jullian Records the next April and featured the singles "Til Tomorrow" and "Missing You." Leffler's stepmother Carlene Carter appears on the 2017 debut album Racing Time, performing on a version of Anita Carter's "As the Sparrow Goes."
