Egil Fylling

New age composer and keyboardist Egil Fylling frequently merges nature-based field recordings with layered symphonic textures and introspective synthesizer passages, while also venturing into progressive rock and folk idioms. His classical training has shaped much of his output, drawing primary inspiration from the landscapes surrounding his Norwegian residence.

The 1985 release Made in Heaven and its 1987 follow-up Bound for Space emerged as collaborative projects whose thick arrangements leaned toward progressive symphonic rock, incorporating keyboards, guitars, and female vocals rather than the new-age aesthetic. With For Earth Below in 1990, the artist shifted into a subsequent creative period that favored ambient textures and placed greater weight on keyboard-centered composition. Subsequent projects explored varied directions, among them the 1997 collection Englene Sang Den featuring instrumental renditions of Norwegian Christmas melodies, the conceptual work In the Trees Near By addressing the origins of the universe, and the meditative album Anhata issued in 1999. Norwegian State Broadcasting has drawn extensively on his catalog.
