Biography
Electrik Red, an upfront and pop-oriented R&B ensemble headquartered in Los Angeles, unites four vocalists drawn from contrasting lineages. Kyndra "Binkie" Reevey hails from Harlem, Lesley Lewis traces West Indian ancestry to Brooklyn, British-Canadian and Jamaican Naomi Allen grew up in Toronto, and fellow Torontonian Sarah Rosete carries Swedish, Filipino, and Russian heritage. After forming in 2005, the singers first collaborated as dancers—three joined Usher’s touring company and all four appeared in Ciara’s “Like a Boy” video—before entering the recording industry. Def Jam signed the group, which surfaced in late 2008 with the provocative single “Drink in My Cup” produced by the-Dream. Written and produced almost entirely by Dream and partner Tricky Stewart, How to Be a Lady, Vol. 1 was captured in a brisk two-week session and issued in May 2009.
