Los Angeles-based duo Fiji Blue pairs wistful lyrics with laid-back dance grooves, coining the term "sad boy chill house" for their style. Drawing from indie, R&B, and singer/songwriter sources, the pair’s self-released singles—including 2020’s “Butterflies”—have accumulated millions of streams.

Songwriters Trevor Dering and Valentin Fritz first connected while studying at the Berklee College of Music. After moving to Los Angeles, they launched Fiji Blue, assigning Dering the roles of singer and guitarist while Fritz handled production. In 2018 a trap-influenced R&B demo called “Indigo” surfaced on SoundCloud; by 2020 the official singles “Space Makes Me Sad,” “Numb,” and “Day by Day” had emerged, steering the project toward house textures. Additional 2020 releases featured the heavily streamed tracks “I Should’ve Told You” and “Waves” plus a cover of Clairo’s “Sofia.” The shimmering “It Takes Two” followed in 2021.
