Head Wound City emerged as a thrashing grindcore project born from an inebriated notion that ultimately took shape. After a London performance by their respective groups, Jordan Blilie of the Blood Brothers and Nick Zinner of Yeah Yeah Yeahs hatched the idea of forming a band over drinks. Calls placed that same night while intoxicated secured Justin Pearson and Gabe Serbian, both from the Locust, along with fellow Blood Brother Cody Votolato to complete the lineup. Amid separate obligations, the musicians located pockets of availability and produced the material during a single week of writing and recording in late February 2005. The result was a chaotic seven-song, self-titled EP issued that November through Three-One-G. What began as an impromptu diversion meant the members would not reconvene for nearly a decade. Following a 2014 reunion for multiple live dates, Head Wound City reentered the studio to develop a full-length album. New Wave of Violence appeared in early 2016.
