Biography
Under the moniker Hoodboi, Roger Schami fuses post-disco R&B, house, and left-of-center pop into atmospheric club tracks equally suited to the dancefloor and domestic playback. Since 2015 he has released a series of EPs—beginning with Palm Reader and culminating in Sahara—alongside multiple standalone singles across the same period.
Born in El Paso and resident in Los Angeles from the mid-2000s onward, Schami launched his career through TeamSupreme, the collective and label he established while also creating its visual branding. Following an initial run of edits and remixes—one of which was Slick Shoota’s “F Dat” on the Mad Decent imprint—he delivered his first official Hoodboi project, the 2015 EP Palm Reader, via Fool’s Gold. That release paved the way for further Fool’s Gold singles and EPs, among them 2018’s Breathing Room and 2019’s Sahara, in addition to assorted collaborations and remixes.
