Biography
German DJ Gerret Frerichs served as the driving force behind the house project Humate, which he launched jointly with P. Kjonberg in Oldenburg at the dawn of the 1990s. The venture represented his first concerted push into releasing dance tracks after years of performing in live bands. Among Humate’s earliest releases, the single “Love Stimulation” resonated strongly throughout European clubs. Around the same period Frerichs also partnered on the well-known Jens project alongside Jens Mahlstedt, the team behind the major dance hit “Loops & Tings.” In the mid-’90s he relocated his base to Hamburg, where he handled remixes and productions under the names Humate, Goldfinger, and House of Prince. The Humate singles “3” and “Sound” from this phase earned solid club support and opened the door to his debut album, The Best of Humate. In 1998 Frerichs delivered the EP The American, which found success across many countries. He subsequently revived the Humate identity for the popular club track “Choose Life” (2000).
