In 2020 Spanish producer HVME scored a major breakthrough by transforming Travis Scott’s single “Goosebumps” into a future-house version, an effort that ultimately drew Scott himself into the studio for a fresh remix.

Born in Murcia, Spain, HVME—pronounced “hume”—first entered the studio in 2016, shaping tracks that drew from both future house and deep house. For one of those recordings he created a dance reinterpretation of Travis Scott’s 2016 single “Goosebumps,” the original of which included a guest verse from Kendrick Lamar; HVME’s take highlighted Scott’s vocal hooks and set them against a dark, pulsating rhythm. Lithuania HQ, a dance-focused label, issued the track in 2020, after which it quickly spread worldwide and aligned with a wave of club- and radio-oriented reworkings of hip-hop and R&B material, among them Imanbek’s take on SAINt JHN’s “Roses” and Regard’s update of Jay Sean’s “Ride It.” Once HVME’s “Goosebumps” appeared on charts across a dozen European territories, Scott added his contribution to a remix that surfaced in January 2021 and extended the song’s reach into the United States, Canada, and Australia.
