Biography
Shakerria Davis, known professionally as iCandy and raised in Pompano Beach, Florida, received the nickname Candy from her mother early on. She began rapping at thirteen and lists Miley Cyrus and Missy Elliott as primary influences. After more than a decade of steady work, first recording as iCandy Davis and later simply as iCandy, she started attracting attention through 2019’s “Ten Commandments” and 2020’s “Bank Roll (She-Mix).” Her sharp, assertive rhymes and upbeat party energy helped expand a growing fanbase in early 2022 via “Lie to Me” and “It’s Over,” yet it was the November release of the audacious single “Keep Dat Nigga” that accelerated her breakthrough. The track’s nimble delivery rode a buoyant groove built on a sample of KC & the Sunshine Band’s 1975 classic “Boogie Shoes,” quickly generating millions of streams, spawning a TikTok dance challenge, and landing on both the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and the Hot 100 Bubbling Under chart by May 2023. In 2023 she issued a collaborative mix of “Keep Dat” featuring GloRilla, Kali, and Big Boss Vette.
