Although the pair had been collaborating since 1991, the duo behind Holland’s retro-minded tech-house project Jark Prongo waited until 1998 to unveil their first release, the spare yet widely embraced crossover cut “Movin’ Thru Your System.” Gaston Steenkist, recording as Dobre, and Rene ter Horst, known as Jamez, established the Fresh Fruit imprint that same year, shifted operations to Pssst in 1995, and amassed an extensive catalog under numerous guises—Trancesetters, 51 Days, D.J. Zki, Klatsch!, Basco, Tatabox Inhibitors, Tomba Vira, Rene Et Gaston, and Jark Prongo among them. The track connected strongly with followers of Sasha and the Hooj Choons roster; its buoyant, rolling disco groove climbed into the British Top 75, aided by an extensive, segmented promotional rollout. Despite occasional dismissals labeling them anonymous one-hit wonders, the project sustained activity with the 1999 Radio 1-listed single “Shake It,” a rework of Groovezone’s take on “Eisbaer,” and the 2001 release “Rocket Base,” which earned approval from both Fergie and Yomanda.
