Biography
Emerging first in the public eye as a participant on the eighth season of American Idol, Jasmine Murray has established herself as a contemporary Christian vocalist. Vocal expression began for her already in preschool within Columbus, Mississippi, the city of her birth, where upbringing continued until her family shifted to nearby Starkville following the start of high school. Still a high-school student at the time, she tried out for the American Idol series during 2008 in Jacksonville, Florida. That led to her advancement through the eighth season, which premiered in January 2009, ultimately securing a Top 13 finish that included interpretations of songs by one of her foremost influences, Christina Aguilera, as well as the Jackson 5 and Sara Bareilles. She also pursued beauty pageants regularly from her teens into her twenties, capturing the Miss Mississippi title in summer 2014 and later placing in the Top Ten at the 2015 Miss America pageant. Relocation to Nashville, Tennessee, preceded her signing with FairTrade Services, the label that issued her first official single, “Fearless,” in 2017. Crafted jointly by Murray, Jeff Pardo, and Tony Wood, the release climbed into the Top Ten of the Christian digital sales and airplay charts.
