Juan Vélez, the singer and songwriter known simply as Juan, sustained his competitive edge after claiming victory in the fourth season of the reality series Objectivo Fama, modeled on American Idol. His debut full-length album, Con Mi Soledad, arrived in 2007 and registered as a Top Ten success roughly six months after the program concluded. Born Juan Antonio Vélez on August 2, 1983, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, and raised in Coamo, Puerto Rico, he advanced as one of thirty semi-finalists during the season hosted by Mexican singer and actress Yuri.

Auditioning for the show in Los Angeles introduced him to fellow contestant Erica Gonzaba; their rapport intensified until the pair acknowledged their romantic feelings midway through the season. The development supplied ample televised drama, though Gonzaba’s elimination came on April 28, 2007, while Vélez secured the win on May 20. He then staged a run of concerts at El Centro de Bellas Artes Luis A. Ferré in Santurce, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and began tracking Con Mi Soledad with producer Sergio George.

Fonovisa issued the album in December 2007; it reached number eight on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart, while the title track, written by Vélez, climbed to number 22 on the Hot Latin Tracks chart.
