Biography
The five-member Puerto Rican teen pop outfit Jyve V, whose moniker references a dance move paired with the headcount of its lineup, first stepped into entertainment by joining the local competition La Batalla de los Sexos. After relocating to Miami in 1998, Jasond (born Jasond Omar Calderon Vargas), Rafa (born Rafael Alfredo Calderon Vargas), Alex (born Víctor Alejandro Martínez Nieves), Chelo (born José Oscar Mejias Hernández), and Samuel (born Samuel Omar Padua Pérez) took top honors in a comparable event. A recording agreement followed in February 1999. Emi Latin issued Jyve V in 2000, spotlighting the hit single "Entre Tú y Yo" written by Alejandro Montalbán.
