Legado 7 formed in Orange County, California, as a norteño ensemble whose signature style revolves around lumbre corridos, so named for their primary lyrical focus on marijuana. The group launched with the independently issued 100% Corridos Verde in 2016, followed months afterward by the live recording En Vivo Desde OK Corral. After joining the corridos tumbao imprint Rancho Humilde in 2017 they delivered Un Chamaco Sin Futuro. Their 2018 release, the seventeen-track Para Lumbre, featured guest appearances by Fuerza Regida, Arsenal Efectivo and additional artists. The 2019 album El Seven de la Suerte earned widespread international acclaim, while the next year’s Duetos Con La Clika EP consisted solely of collaborative tracks; that same period also yielded the eight-song set 4-20-20, whose single “Soy Lo Que Soy” included Regida and Natanael Cano. In 2021 the eleven-track L.A. Lumbre arrived, spotlighting “Reyes Magos” with Herencia de Patrones and JOP alongside “El Jeffrey” with Grupo Codiciado.

Songwriter and lead vocalist Alexander Guerra together with accordionist Ramón Ruiz established the band in 2014 after their prior solo endeavors ended, adding three further members and directing their writing toward cannabis themes. Although the subject dominates, the musicians avoid narcocorrido territory, instead exploring marijuana varieties, the shifting legal landscape as states permit recreational use, and the surrounding party culture, without reference to cartels or specific criminals. Hardcore norteño listeners credit Legado 7 as the originators of the stoner corrido sound, yet their audience also extends into Southern California’s Rastafarian circles. Deeply familiar with the broader corrido and ranchera canon, the ensemble maintains a catalog expansive enough for weddings and family gatherings alike.

Their debut 100% Corridos Verde appeared on 20 April 2016—fittingly, given the date’s association with cannabis—and the group subsequently toured the Southwest, performing at county fairs, nightclubs and fraternity houses. Rancho Humilde issued the follow-up Un Chamaco Sin Futuro on the same April date in 2017; the label’s roster already included Alta Consigna, Los Hijos de Barron and Grupo Codiciado. One year later Pura Lumbre, also on Rancho Humilde, climbed to number six on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart, and within months the live album En Vivo Con Tololoche followed. Studio sessions in January produced the thirteen-track El 7 De La Suerte, released in April and placing inside the top ten across Latin streaming rankings; its video for “El Chilly Willy” surpassed eight million views in the opening month. February 2021 brought the seven-track EP Duetos Con La Clika, pairing the band with Natanael Cano on “Bien Tumbado,” Los Hijos de Garcia on “La Querian Facil,” and Junior H on the charting single and clip “Ojos de Maniaco.” April saw the eight-song EP 4-20-20, highlighted by the Fuerza Regida and Natanael Cano collaboration “Soy Lo Que Soy.” Later that month the full-length L.A. Lumbre surfaced, its lead track “El Reyes Magos” featuring Herencia de Patrones and JOP and accumulating over 300,000 views in its first week; the second single “El Jeffrey” with Grupo Codiciado entered the top ten on Mexican Regional streaming charts while its video exceeded 600,000 views during the same period.
