Biography
Phillips, gospel music's she-rebel, abandoned the gospel scene toward the end of the eighties upon finding its boundaries too restrictive. Under the name Sam Phillips, she began cutting secular tracks for Virgin Records in partnership with producer T-Bone Burnett, her husband at the time.
