Lidia Avila

Born on September 13, 1979, Lidia Avila spent her earliest childhood years in Chihuahua, Mexico, alongside her parents and six brothers. The entire Avila household shared strong musical and artistic leanings, prompting a family move to the city in pursuit of improved prospects for the youngsters, who frequently performed songs and dances at neighborhood events and private gatherings. Formal music lessons began for Lidia at age eight once she developed an interest in jazz and pop vocal methods. Those lessons led two years afterward to an audition with the Mexican youth pop ensemble La Onda Vaselina, whose growing profile supplied Avila with early public exposure. The group issued six albums before concluding its run with a final recording in 2000. Her resulting pop-culture presence opened doors to occasional acting roles, including an appearance in the telenovela Clap and several other productions. Although serious acting pursuits never materialized, continued visibility helped secure a contract with Sony International and the launch of her self-titled debut solo album. Retaining her pop foundation while incorporating traces of her traditional musical roots, that project met with only modest commercial response. A 2005 album on the Fonovisa label, Así Como Me Ves, explored a comparable blend of styles and attained somewhat wider notice. Todo Tiene Color appeared in 2007.
