machineheart, a Los Angeles pop ensemble, first drew widespread notice in 2015 when the breakout single Circles appeared on their Columbia-issued In Your Dreams EP. Blending engaging vocal performances with rich yet sharp-edged synth-driven pop, the group secured further attention via Speak in Tongues in 2017 and then delivered their initial full-length album, People Change, during 2019.
Guitarist Carman Kubanda, bassist Jake Randle, and drummer Harrison Allen—friends who had grown up together in Tacoma, Washington—formed the band in 2014 and soon enlisted vocalist Stevie Scott, an Anglophile singer based in Los Angeles. Early blog coverage followed their renditions of songs by Katy Perry and the 1975, along with a contribution to MTV’s Scream television series, yet the shimmery single Circles ultimately generated more serious interest through placements on emerging-artist playlists across multiple streaming platforms. That track anchored the 2015 debut EP In Your Dreams on Columbia. The highly streamed single Speak in Tongues arrived in 2017 and was featured on the band’s second EP, Cruel World, issued later that year. After signing with Nettwerk, machineheart released People Change as their first long-player in 2019.
