Puerto Rican vocalist Maldy, born Edwin Vázquez Vega, first rose to prominence as half of the reggaeton duo Plan B, which he launched together with his cousin Chencho Corleone. The pair ranked among the leading acts in the initial wave of the genre that swept across the globe in the early 2000s. Across their twenty-year run, Plan B issued three studio albums—alongside two further releases credited to the La Fórmula collective—plus assorted mixtapes and a string of singles, while appearing on numerous compilations and playlists and teaming with every major name in the field. As a wave of newcomers crowded the urbano scene and pushed the cousins somewhat aside, they chose in 2018 to suspend Plan B and focus on separate solo careers. Maldy delivered his first album under his own name, Sicalipsis, in 2019, only to pause his work when the pandemic struck. He reemerged forcefully in 2023 after Karol G recruited him for her chart-topping “Gatúbela,” a track that recognized him as a pioneer of classic reggaeton. Now signed to Warner, he has dropped singles nearly every month, with a follow-up album expected in 2024.
