Biography
Maridalia Hernández, born Maridalia Hernández Morel, had previously worked as a lyrical singer and music teacher before emerging as tropical diva Maridalia Hernández with her stage debut in 1981, when she joined the José Luis Mella-produced musical Sonido Para Una Imagen. The Dominican artist next portrayed Maria Magdalena in Jesucristo Superestrella, the Spanish-language adaptation of Jesus Christ Superstar. During 1983 she collaborated with Juan Luis Guerra to launch the bachata-merengue ensemble 4:40.
Her 1986 appearance at Viña del Mar secured first place from the judging panel with the Manuel Tejada and José Antonio Rodríguez composition “Para Quererte.”
