Marmozets, a British post-hardcore quintet, rapidly gained strong popularity across the U.K. music community by merging the raw energy of youthful punk with exceptional instrumental command. The group originated in 2007 in the modest town of Bingley near Bradford, West Yorkshire, assembled by two sibling pairs who first connected during school: vocalist Becca Macintyre alongside her brothers Sam on guitar and Josh on drums, plus guitarist Jack Bottomley with his brother Will on bass. Their style fused the tuneful emo-punk-pop of early Paramore with the intricate post-hardcore approach of U.K. forerunners such as Hundred Reasons and Hell Is for Heroes, prompting them to begin live shows when the members' average age stood at 17. Extended years of performances sharpened their craft and generated interest through several independently distributed EPs, after which they progressed to the festival circuit. In 2014 the band inked a deal with Roadrunner to issue its debut album The Weird and Wonderful Marmozets, which reached number 25 on the U.K. album chart. Worldwide touring followed, yet Becca faced serious knee injuries together with stretches of self-doubt and depression that nearly led her to leave the group. Persevering through these setbacks, the members stepped back to prioritize songwriting and resurfaced in January 2018 with the follow-up Knowing What You Know Now. Produced by Gil Norton and led by the singles "Play," "Habits," and "Major System Error," the record adopted a more direct rock approach than its predecessor while preserving the original drive and weight.
