Biography
Forming one of the earliest blends of pop-soul, reggae, and hip-hop that would shape mainstream radio at the start of the 2000s, Max-A-Million featured the voices of A'Lisa B., Duran Estevez, and Tommye. Chicago producers Charlie "Baby" Rosario and Manfred Mohr oversaw the act via their 20 Fingers Productions banner, which would later register with the irreverent club single "Short Dick Man." The group's only album appeared in 1995 under the title Take Your Time. Its opening track reworked the S.O.S. Band's 1980 hit into a worldwide dancefloor phenomenon. Max-A-Million next delivered a version of Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing," whose durable groove sustained the comparatively mild remake and carried Take Your Time toward platinum certification. After Mohr and Rosario redirected their attention to other artists in the 20 Fingers stable, Max-A-Million lost its mooring and drifted back into obscurity.
