Biography
Michael Brant DeMaria came into the world on April 23, 1962, in Norwalk, Connecticut, and has pursued a varied path that includes work as a psychologist, the writing of three books, composition, and service as a “Soul Guide”. Music entered his life early, prompting lifelong engagement that sharpened his command of percussion and keyboards while prompting experiments with instruments drawn from many cultural traditions. He completed a PhD in psychology at twenty-four and entered clinical practice, where his sonic experience prompted exploration of music’s therapeutic value; those investigations ultimately led him to create Ontos, the consulting firm that disseminates the healing approaches he originated. In 2003 he issued The River, inaugurating the Ontos Healing Sound Project Series. Ocean appeared in 2009 as the next release in that series of healing recordings. The same year brought Siyotanka, an album rooted in a Native American legend encountered during a vision quest; the Native American Music Association presented the work with its Native Heart award and the recording earned a Grammy nomination for “Best Native American Music.”
