Hailing from Toronto, rapper Nue rose through the city's thriving underground hip-hop community after a handful of online tracks quickly drew widespread attention. His approach blends Auto-Tuned vocal melodies with verses steeped in a clouded, substance-tinged atmosphere, and he began issuing singles throughout 2017 before his debut mixtape appeared.

The earliest of those tracks were the sparse, introspective "Obvious" and the comparably atmospheric "Alaska," both from 2017. They surfaced on various streaming services alongside videos that employed stylized, occasionally psychedelic imagery mirroring the production's dreamy sheen. Spring of the following year brought the drug-laden "Nightfall," which soon received a remix featuring Pressa. By then Nue had aligned with 300 Entertainment, the outlet that issued his ten-song mixtape u met me at a strange time late in 2018.
