In the mid-2010s a group of seasoned Nashville musicians launched Okey Dokey, fusing warm pastoral indie rock with psychedelic accents and the buoyant pulse of early-'60s pop. Their first full-length recording, Love You, Mean It, appeared in 2017. Bassist Aaron Martin and guitarist Johny Fisher had already crossed paths briefly in Sol Cat during 2013, both adding to the band’s debut album and the tour that followed. Martin had originally been asked to join Sol Cat after supplying artwork, yet he stepped away from the bass chair to devote more energy to visual projects. Several years later Fisher and Martin resumed writing together as Okey Dokey, with Martin now handling lead vocals, and they recruited additional players from other local acts to complete the ensemble. Love You, Mean It reached listeners in early 2017. The band performed at the Austin City Limits Music Festival later that year, and in 2018 the duo issued a new set of singles highlighted by “When They Get Older,” which featured Rayland Baxter. Two years after that they delivered their second album, the dynamic and genre-spanning Once Upon One Time.
