Biography
Emerging from Belas, Portugal, where the Portuguese pop/rock group Pólo Norte formed in 1992, the lineup features vocalist Miguel Gameiro, guitarist Tó Almeida, bassist Marco Vieira, keyboardist João Gomes, and drummer Luís Varatojo. Their first album, Expedição, surfaced in 1995 and paved the way for eventual Top Ten stature. Aprender a Ser Feliz followed in 1996, then Longe in 1999. The concert set Pólo Norte ao Vivo arrived in 2000 to revisit earlier highlights, after which Joga da Vida (2002) and Deixa o Mundo Girar (2005) each lifted the band’s profile higher. The 2005 release gained particular traction through its hit singles “Deixa o Mundo Girar,” “A Dança,” and “Pelé,” tracks later placed on telenovela soundtracks; those successes led to a 2007 reissue that added a live bonus disc. Issued in 2008 to mark the band’s fifteenth anniversary, 15 Anos gathered major tracks from prior years together with two newly recorded songs.
