Prodeje emerged as a key figure in shaping West Coast gangsta rap from the early through the late 1990s, both as a solo artist tied to South Central Cartel and as one half of a duo alongside fellow SCC rapper Havoc. Beyond delivering rhymes, he also oversaw a substantial share of the production on his own recordings.
