Biography
In 2010 the Brooklyn quartet Record Heat assembled around vocalist and keyboardist Steve Cooper, guitarist Cal Stamp, bassist Paul Michel, and drummer Ronen Evron. That year they issued their first independent release, the ten-song collection The Cost of Living. Wider attention arrived in 2012 when the single "The Black Jack White" accumulated substantial streams and appeared in an episode of CSI: NY, while the EP This Is a Test also highlighted the track "BST FRNDS." Their rousing, genre-bending sound, which folds funk and blues into rock, supported continued expansion over the following years. Further well-received EPs emerged, among them 2016's World War IV and its single "Regular World." After a period on the Universal-distributed Wind-Up Records, the band secured a deal with Atlantic in early 2018 and delivered the album Born Yesterday, a hard-hitting blend of slick pop and punchy rock grooves. In 2019 they followed with Reborn Yesterday, a deluxe edition of their debut that added extra material.
