Based in Toronto, JUNO-nominated producer, songwriter, and DJ Ron Allen launched the landmark Strobe Records imprint. He co-founded the label with Hayden Andre Brown, establishing himself among the key architects of house and techno during the early 1990s. After beginning as a DJ, Allen moved behind the boards driven by his deep musical passion, generating material that extended well past club environments. His production work spans pop, R&B, hip-hop, rock, and country, positioning him as a frequent collaborator across those styles.

After moving to Toronto in 1988, Allen joined Bigshot Records, the label run by Jerry Fumo, Andrew Komis, and Nick Fiorucci. Recalling that moment, he states, “Andrew Komis, aka Komix (RIP), heard my demo—one that only Derrick May had listened to before—and signed me on the spot. That’s when I became a studio fanatic.”

In 1991 Allen and Andre Brown created Strobe Records, an outlet that came to define house music’s classic period. Standout releases included Subculture’s “The Voyage,” Hayden Andre’s “Tribal Life,” and Afterglow’s “Come Back 2 Me,” alongside the Digital Age EP that helped spark the career of Nick Holder’s DNH Records. Allen maintains an active release schedule today, confirming that his mark on dance music remains ongoing. Further catalog details appear at stroberecords.com and on Bandcamp.
