Brash and high-spirited Toronto native SadBoi crafts dancefloor-oriented tracks by blending garage and house with Caribbean-rooted styles such as dancehall, lovers rock, baile funk, and reggaeton. From the late 2010s through 2021 she performed and wrote as Ebhoni, moving between contemporary R&B and pop-leaning songs while occasionally nodding to her heritage. She adopted the SadBoi name in 2022, the same year she issued several independent singles plus the six-track EP were all the ig girls worth it?. The independence anthem "Potential" defined her 2023 and later appeared on her debut LVRN Records project, the 2024 album BARE CHAT.

Ebhoni Jade Cato-O'Garro grew up in Toronto and suburban Oshawa, where she began singing, writing, and recording as a teenager. Under the name Ebhoni she reached the market in 2018; a string of singles and EPs culminated in the ten-track set Good Dick & Weed, issued by True Panther Sounds in 2021. The following year she took the alias SadBoi, drawn from a nickname she had used for an ex, and although she retained an R&B foundation she shifted emphasis toward club tracks and lovers rock-inflected ballads. That year she also self-released were all the ig girls worth it?, signed with LVRN Records (also known as Love Renaissance), and introduced herself on the label with the single "U Dun Kno." "Potential" broadened her reach in 2023 and formed part of the previously issued and newly recorded material collected on 2024’s BARE CHAT. She maintained momentum with further singles including "fashion week," "jane baby" featuring Cash Cobain, and the DJ SAZE collaboration "rosa."
