Biography
Lilbootycall, a Texas-raised MC, fuses cloud rap foundations with jazz sensibilities to shape sweet, tuneful cuts built on understated beats, auto-tuned vocals, and layered rhymes. Toward the end of the 2010s the artist dropped the breakout single “Sailor Moon,” which circulated widely online and drew a growing listenership that led to a major-label contract. His first complete project, Jesus Said Run It Back, surfaced in 2019.
Born Michael Bocanegra in San Antonio, he was raised by parents who valued music and absorbed early inspiration from Houston rappers Mike Jones, Slim Thug, and Paul Wall, as well as rap-metal outfits such as Linkin Park and Papa Roach. He began producing tracks on a home laptop, then joined a high-school rap collective for a brief period before continuing alone. In 2017 he uploaded the early songs “Aquafina” and “Sailor Moon,” the latter quickly spreading as a viral success. He next shared “Butterfly,” “First Date,” and “777,” the last featuring Cuco and Kwe$t.
After signing with Warner Records, Lilbootycall issued the debut album Jesus Said Run It Back in 2019; alongside “777” it contained “18K” with Juicy J and “Prescriptions” with GoldLink.
