Born as Chase Amick in 1999, the rapper 6 Dogs spent his formative years shifting between multiple spots throughout Georgia inside a rigorously Christian home. During his teenage period he started writing and laying down original material, yet concealed every track from the intensely devout mother with whom he continued to reside. A handful of uploads appeared on SoundCloud toward the close of 2016, after which the song “Flossing” quickly spread. At seventeen, while still attending high school and living beneath his parents’ roof, Amick could no longer shield his mounting recognition from his mother; once she learned of the music and the associated rapper existence, she imposed an indefinite grounding. Recording privileges remained, however, and “Faygo Dreams” appeared in March 2017, the druggy, trap-inflected single accumulating millions of streams inside a few months. Further releases extended an ever-darkening aesthetic, among them “Chutup” during summer 2017, before a 2018 partnership with producer Danny Wolf yielded the 6 Wolves EP. A rapid sequence of singles followed in 2019—“Spooky,” “Max Keeble,” and “Drifting,” the last featuring Pretty Pacc. On 26 January 2021, at age twenty-one, 6 Dogs took his own life.
