Savannah Ré channels wistful themes of romance into a sleek, unhurried strain of R&B whose closeness registers both in its sonic textures and its confessional words. The nine-song collection Opia marked her recorded introduction in 2020 and earned her a Juno Award for the song “Solid.”
Born and raised in Toronto, where she continues to reside, the singer-songwriter crafts hypnotic material that spotlights the emotional reach of her voice. Early listener response secured an opening slot on Jessie Reyez’s tour in late 2018 and an introduction to Grammy Award-winning producer Boi-1da, whose credits include Cardi B and Lana Del Rey. Boi-1da joined Ré’s husband, YogiTheProducer—whose résumé lists Kehlani and Jessie Reyez—to co-produce the debut Opia, which Universal Music Canada released in November 2020. The next year brought a Polaris Music Prize longlist for Opia, while “Solid” received the Juno for Traditional R&B/Soul Recording of the Year; “Where You Are” earned a nomination in the Contemporary R&B/Soul Recording of the Year category.
