Biography
Shane Harper, an earnest contemporary pop singer and songwriter who also works as an American actor and dancer, entered the world in La Jolla, California, where his household revolved around the performing arts; one sibling pursued a professional dance career while another found success as a model. By roughly nine years old he had already begun exploring vocals, movement, stage performance, guitar, and piano. Formal dance training and local theater productions followed, and an agent signed him after he competed at a regional event. At thirteen he made his first on-screen appearance on the children’s program Dance Revolution. Later he portrayed dancers in the 2006 television film Re-Animated and in High School Musical 2 the next year. Additional television guest roles soon arrived, allowing him to convert his dance background into acting opportunities. The most prominent of these arrived in 2010 when he secured a recurring part as Spencer on the Disney Channel sitcom Good Luck Charlie.
While the series continued, Harper kept developing his music. He issued the teen-pop ballad “Dance with Me” that same year, then saw Deep Well Records bring out his self-titled debut album in February 2012. Good Luck Charlie ran until early 2014; during the same period he added recurring parts on the MTV comedies Awkward and Happyland, both of which concluded in 2014. Also in 2014 he shared the screen with Kevin Sorbo in the independent drama God’s Not Dead and contributed the faith-based track “Hold You Up,” which reached the Top 30 on Billboard’s Christian charts, encompassing digital sales. Balancing his dual careers, he delivered the EP Like I Did in spring 2016, coinciding with his casting in a supporting role for ABC’s remake of the musical Dirty Dancing.
