Sky Sailing

Adam Young, the singer and songwriter who would later front Owl City, had already shaped the material for his separate endeavor Sky Sailing well before that act surfaced. These pieces favored a more acoustic approach than the electro-pop associated with Owl City, and Young composed and tracked them in 2006 while employed as a metalworker in Minnesota and still sharing a home with his parents. Following the breakthrough success of Ocean Eyes, the Sky Sailing recordings appeared as An Airplane Carried Me Up to Bed in summer 2010. Although Young invested little effort in promotion, the digital edition of An Airplane Carried Me Up to Bed sold briskly, placing among the week’s most-downloaded new albums.
