Biography
Australian multi-instrumentalist Simon Okely produces emotional balladry rooted in soft rock and R&B under the Slow Dancer moniker. Previously the guitarist for indie outfit Oh Mercy, he elected to strike out independently in 2013, giving rise to the Slow Dancer project. Working swiftly in his personal studio, he completed the debut single “Leave It to Me,” issued that same year. Sufficient material followed for his first album, Surrender, which appeared as a self-release in 2014. During the next three years he continued sharpening his style and took the stage across his recently adopted hometown of Melbourne. Live appearances often featured two close friends, expanding Slow Dancer into a short-lived trio. Concurrently he assembled his second album through solitary nighttime sessions after returning from his day job as a social worker. Early 2017 brought the lead single “Don't Believe.” Issued domestically by Pieater and via ATO in the U.S., the intimate and soulful In a Mood reached listeners in June 2017.
