Steve Rushton’s swift ascent through rock and pop circles stems from film placements and ties to the tween audience. Born on October 30, 1987, at Frimley Park Hospital in Chertsey, Surrey, England, he first encountered music when his stepfather brought him onstage with his own band at the age of seven. Green Day ranked as his strongest preference during those early years. While honing his craft as a songwriter, guitarist, and singer, he performed with Mr. Cheerful from secondary school and high school onward through college; the group advanced to the United Kingdom regional finals of the 2003 Junior Eurovision Song Contest.

After shifting to electric bass guitar, Rushton entered the pop-punk outfit Son of Dork, handling lead vocals on half their material until 2008. The band, abbreviated as SOD, scored two U.K. Top Ten hits and issued the album Welcome to Loserville in 2005. He later relocated to Los Angeles to launch a solo career and secured a deal with Hollywood Records for an album slated for 2009. During that period he opened shows for Jordan Pruitt, known through Kraft’s Mac & Cheese-a-Palooza. His debut single “Emergency” premiered on Radio Disney and appeared on the soundtrack to the Disney feature Race to Witch Mountain.

Rushton’s regular presence on The Disney Channel soon followed, which led to his contribution to the hit film Hannah Montana: The Movie starring Miley Cyrus, where he performed the tracks “Game Over” and “Everything I Want.” He also supplies the theme song “This Boat’s Rockin’” for the Disney series The Suite Life on Deck, the successor to The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. Producer John Fields, previously associated with the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato, has collaborated with him on recordings.
