KSM

KSM took shape in 2006 as a Los Angeles pop/rock group built around Kate Cabebe on drums, Katie Cecil handling rhythm guitar and backing vocals, Shelby Cobra delivering lead vocals, Sophia Melon playing bass guitar with backing vocals, and Shae Padilla on lead guitar. The band’s name stemmed from the many K’s and S’s among the members, with the added “M” standing for music. Their sound merges the polished grit of early girl groups such as the Go-Go’s and the Bangles with the wide-eyed wonder of newer acts like the Cheetah Girls and the Jonas Brothers, resulting in hook-filled teen pop. Before issuing their first full-length album, Read Between the Lines, on the Walt Disney label in 2009, the precocious teens sharpened their skills performing at clubs and high-school venues.
